Mavs vs. Nets 2-28-2012

Tonight the Dallas Mavs fell short after a long All-star break to the New Jersey Nets with a final score of 92-93. Former head coach Avery Johnson and his team out scored Dallas with a shooting percentage of 46. Deshawn Stevenson returned and while he didn't score any points, he received his championship ring :) The player of the game was Brenden Haywood with a season high 18 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks! Dallas' Jason Terry scored 12 points and became the 6th NBA all-time 3-point shooter with a total of 1720 3-point shots in his career passing former Dallas Maverick Dale Ellis in tonight's loss against the Nets. Since I'm from Dallas, it's only right that I root for the home team :) Hopefully we can pull it off on the road against Memphis tomorrow. #MFFL

February Wrap-Up

February Wrap up???  I know you're probably thinking...what's there to wrap up?  Well, I'm working on that.  As I stated....bear with me, it's gonna take me some time to get into the swing of things.  I'm a blogger virgin!  LOL :)  Hope you all enjoy my last post of the month.  I promise to do better in the upcoming months with coverage of March madness and my favorite topic right now: NBA trade deadline.  Stay tuned!

Ok....so we're ending black history month and I remembered an article I wrote a few years ago as writer for my college newspaper, The Panther (PVAMU).  I was a business major, but I enjoyed writing and I knew I wanted to write sports...it was just something I liked to do.  I only did it for a year or so, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and I believe that experince has also gave me more motivation to bring to you some of my favorite things in the wonderful world of sports.  Click the link below and check out Beware, we're taking over by yours truly to see what I had to say in 2005 about the role of African Americans in sports.  Also...stay tuned!  I'll be blogging live from the American Airlines Center Dallas, TX as the Dallas Mavericks take on the New Jersey Nets.  It's their first game from the All-star break....hopefully the home team can walk away with the WIN!

Beware, we're taking over

Thanks for Stopping By

Hello world!  Thanks for stopping by Heels in the Locker Room!  This is my first time blogging about ANYTHING and since I love to write and I love sports I figured….hey, why not blog about sports!  Everyone has their own opinion about all kinds of topics and I chose sports so I can give you my personal opinion from a woman’s point of view….specifically me, Lori’s point of view J  As I mentioned this is my first time blogging so bear with me here as I get all the kinks worked out.  There’s so much to talk about in the wonderful world of sports so I’ll try my best to keep you updated.  Oh yea, I take special requests too!

As a kid I was a daddy’s girl, I mean…what girl doesn’t adore her daddy and cherish him above all people and things?  I followed him EVERYWHERE….I was like his shadow, even standing outside the bathroom waiting for him to come out and waiting patiently by the back door to hear the garage open when he would come home from work, we were super close.  I can vividly recall his love for sports of all kind and I immediately took notice.  Daddy liked it and so did I, so therefore I figured me and sports were a winning combination.  We took turns reading the sports section, gathered together for daddy daughter time on Sunday’s to watch the big football games and hung out in between my homework assignments to catch a basketball game or two.  This is really how we bonded and I loved every minute of it.  Since I lost my dad in 2002, I’ve become more of a sports fanatic.  I don’t know if it’s my way of coping after all these years, but I do know that the more I involve myself in any sport event, check the stats of my favorite team or share some of my knowledge after reading an extensive article on my favorite site, I feel a bond that resurfaces between my daddy and I even though he’s gone; and I love every minute of it!

So stay tuned as I attempt to bring you stories, updates, highlights and all things sports.  This journey of mines should be very interesting and I would love for you all to be with me each and every step of the way.

Thanks for your support,

Lori
